With an intriguing title, coupled with an image of an attractive dress on its cover, I knew that I just had to borrow this book when I set my eyes upon it on the shelves. As a huge fan of Chick Lit, this offering by Isabel Wolff is definitely a must-read.
True enough, the plot did not disappoint me as Wolff effectively kept readers in suspense, and longing to read on and keep up-to-date with latest happenings in the day and life of Phoebe Swift, the main character of this book. With an unpredictable ending, readers are assured of an exciting read from the beginning all the way until the very last page.
It tells of the newly forged friendship between a young shop owner Phoebe and an old lady named Mrs Bell, who has gone through a lot in life. However, they both harbor deep regrets involving the loss of a friend through unwise decisions. Together, they embark on the search for a long lost friend of Mrs Bell who was thought to have died during the war.
Ultimately, this book teaches the reader that one should make the most out of circumstances, and look on the brighter side of things. That was what the main character, Phoebe, did and I was moved by the strength of this character as she never remained determined despite being met with multiple ordeals.
So, if you are going through a bad month or year, come and pick up this book at RP Library. Reading this book lifted my spirit, as it taught me that tough times do not last – but strong people do!
