The 7 habits of highly effective teens : the ultimate teenage success guide / Sean Covey

“A true gift for the teenage soul”
-Jack Canfield and Kimberly Kirberger, coauthors of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul

The above praise from the coauthors of writers of books for teenagers attracted me to this book. Another attraction was the interesting book cover. This book is a national bestseller in United States of American and over 1,500,000 copies were sold.

This is a book every teenager should read. As a teenager, I know that most of the teenagers are willing to seek fun rather than education, knowledge and so on. Teenager life sees the start of maturity. It is also the time when you are caught between your friends and school work. A teenager’s life can also be said to be the crossroad of life. We need to learn to be able to control ourselves and proceed on the right track towards to our bright future.

In this book, the author describes the seven habits which are really effective for the teens. The author says that habits are the things which can make teenagers push toward or be dragged down – so habits are really important for you to be successful. “Put first thing first”. It is one of the seven habits that the author describes. I feel that this is very suitable for teenagers. We usually do the less important things first. For example, we want to hang out with friends at night instead of doing school work which is due tomorrow. As a result, we do not want to go to school the following day.

We can always hang out with our friends later but must do our school work first since the deadline is so close. Other similar cases usually happen to teenagers. Due to these, we miss opportunities and lose the rhythm of daily activities.

Another important thing that the author suggests is that to make “principles” center. Usually teenagers make “friends, school, girlfriend/boyfriend, parents” their center. Rather than depending on people, depending on principles will help you succeed.

Let’s see the author’s example for this! “Take the principle of honesty. If you are a big liar, you may be able to get by for a while or even a few years. But you will not be able to find a liar who is successful throughout the whole life.”

In conclusion, this book is really a good book with good examples, illustrations, and clear explanations. I would like to highly recommend you to read this book if you want start changing your life.
