Are you familiar with the Python programming language? Do you have difficulties in trying to understand or remember the codes? Since Python is a popular programming language that is used for many programmes and applications, it will be beneficial for you to master it well, especially if you are in the School of Infocomm (SOI).

We always try to learn things fast but it is difficult to remember all the things we learn. Therefore, we will need to refer to books very often to help us recall what we have learnt during classes. I think that this is the must-read book on Python, especially for the beginners. This pocket-sized book is quite small, thin and therefore easy to carry around. Do not look down on this small book as it covers all you need to know about Python. This pocket reference provides a clear summary on Python types and statements, built-in functions and exceptions, commonly used standard library modules and other prominent Python tools. However, if you think you need more information, you can refer to the main book “Programming Python”, written by the same author. This book can also be found in RP Library, under the call number QA76.73.P98 LUT 2011.

Survey done in UK on 2011 had shown that 1 in 4 average UK people spend more time online than asleep. With this, online network had become a significant entity which conveys great usefulness in many aspects in people life; one of them is ‘job hunting’.

Nowadays, to find the job of your dreams, online networking is definitely needed. It provides bountiful of opportunities which will connect you to your potential employer. To be able to make full use of these opportunities, some skills and knowledge are needed.

To help people in job hunting on online networking, writer Brad and Debra Schepp published this book to teach these skills and knowledge to people. For better reader understanding, this book is divided into two big parts- first part is on LinkedIn (so called ‘promised land for job hunter’ which is an online network that provides lots of opportunities for job hunter) and second part is on various social networking media platform such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

The content of this book is arranged systematically such that even a layman will have not much problem to understand it. There are also many pictorial aids that will assist the reader in learning how to use the online network platforms.

I think this book will be very useful for fresh graduates who are embarking in their journey to find their dream job. Do come and check out this book at the library.

This is an interesting book that can help you learn the theories of physics in a fun way. If you are taking physics in school and finding difficulties in learning this subject, you can refer to this book for a start.

Most books on physics are not easy to read. However, you will find that this book is different as it presents the laws and theories of physics with funny illustrations. You can read this book over lunchtime or even before you go to bed. Each theory and formula is explained clearly with examples and presented humorously through illustrations. Reading this book is such a breeze and makes learning fun.

After reading this book, I find that physics is not so boring after all. If you pay attention to things that happen around you every day, you can even apply your knowledge on physics to explain how things work. So if you are still struggling with physics or wondering what magnetic fields are, how electric currents flow, etc, you should read this book now.

If you are interested in programming or taking a course on information technology, I think it will be good for you to know how Java works and how you can make full use of it. I find that this book is quite useful to beginners or even experienced programmers.

The first three chapters in this book cover basic concepts of the Java programming language. The rest of the book actually goes deeper into each part of Java – classes and objects, interfaces and inheritance, number and strings, etc. All the concepts are explained clearly, with examples and even exercises for you to apply your knowledge. I’m sure you will agree with me that writing a programme is not an easy task. Whenever you face an obstacle, you can always refer to this book.

One very good example is the iphone. As a new iphone user myself, I came across a book “I-phone for dummies” that has guided me to using the iphone functions effectively.

There are altogether 6 parts in this book. It provides clear and detailed instructions on how to surf the internet on iPhone and setting up of email accounts. From the book, I learnt that there are many useful applications that we can download and use. Some examples are using the camera on iPhone as a bar code scanner or using the iphone as a GPS tracking device.

In short, I am not going to tell more details about this book so that you can borrow it and discover for yourself.

This interesting book is very useful for all of us who study Organizational Behavior module. It covers all the topics from our lessons. I often spend time to read the pre-class reading together with this book as it could help me to be more prepared for the next lesson. Moreover, it provides me a deeper insight of how our behavior and belief can influence our life.

In part one and two of this book, the introduction covered on the topic “Individual Behavior, Personality and Values”. I really love to read these two parts as I have learnt some of my personality traits which help me to find out what kind of job is more suitable for me. Part three of this book is the most interesting as it guides us on how to improve our teamwork. Most of us (first year students) sometimes have hard time to work in a team as miscommunication, conflict or disagreements among team members may happen. I do feel a big improvement in my team after we have learnt this part.

The last part which is part four is about Organizational Processes. It helps us understand all the basic structure of organization and how culture play an important part of improving behavior of workers as well as maintaining the standard performance in organization.

I hope you would spend some times to read this book. It is really meaningful and interesting. Hope you enjoy it J
