It is a book for keen beginners, showing you the foundations of probability along with colorful examples, explanations and tutorials. What is more, this book provides you with professional tips such as ten steps to a better probability grade, etc.

Since this book aims to let students comprehend the building blocks of probability, I would highly recommend students to refer to this book as their guide. Each chapter has been explained thoroughly along with essential tips and exercises. Furthermore, this book even enlightens us on how to apply probability to make life easier. An interesting example is under part II, page 65 which talks about counting using probability and betting to win. Moreover, this book is well organized in various parts and chapters. To allow better visualization, this book is fully furnished with well-explained diagrams, theories and learning tips in each chapter. Since this book renders all the critical skills and knowledge that students require, this is the opportunity for students to learn better about probability.

It is good to be proficient in these topics which students are going to learn in the relevant Mathematics modules as they empower us to solve daily problems in real life. In order to attain a high level of understanding, we essentially need to figure out the basics first. So, once more, if you encounter any difficulties in probability, this book is a perfect guide for you. All you need is the willingness to learn.

Hi All! We have a new set of arrangement to our library since a couple of weeks back!

The ‘New Arrivals’ is one of our biggest highlights in the library.

In case you have not known, there are new collections of library items (academic books, fiction/non-fiction books, DVDs, etc) shelved every week. Instead of hogging to one specific book of your preference, you can also check out if there are updated volumes of the books.

So what’s going on here?

We have made changes to the arrangement of the New Arrivals (NA). Previously, they were located in front of the long staircase towards the Gallery.

In comparison to the ‘leased collection’ items at the pushcart (see below), it seems like the NA display did not appear as conspicuous and eye-catching.

This is more appealing, right?

What have we come up with?

The new arrangement for the NA shelves are completely different from the previous. Here are the differences:

Instead of having only one location, we have now included the North and South area of the library.

All NA items will be shelved for display every week.

The shelves are pushed to the front of the library.

There are two New Arrivals shelves placed at each location. At the North of the library, one shelf covers library items from West area and the other covers those from North area.

As for South area of the library, one NA shelf consists of books from South location while the other is East.

The advantage about the new arrangement of books is that it is easier for staff whom have recommended the book(s) to find it/them at one common area. Occasionally, we have received feedbacks that the books are not located at the shelf as stated by the call numbers. Therefore, we hope the new change of New Arrivals will help users to identify new books with less complications.

Cheers to the New Look! (:

Have you ever wondered how DELL achieves this, and what makes it so unique in the PC market?

This book will lead you to the answers. You will find out how DELL “goes direct” to its customers. In the early 1990’s, Dell distributed its products through retail outlets and realised that this approach was unprofitable. Therefore, it has decided to focus on improving customer service and support by allowing customers to place and custom configure orders directly. They are also successful in employing e-business that provides best value to its customer. Find more about its business model and how it has become a PCs supplier miracle from this book.

This book covers the key Chapters of physics which are Mechanics physics and Thermodynamics physics.

Mechanics physics is quite an interesting topic among all the other topics because it’s quite similar to our daily life. For example, in Chapter 4 and 5, the author explained about Newton’s 1st law, 2nd law and 3rd law of motions. From these, we can understand how things move and how they can be moved. For instance, the driving of a car. But we cannot forget the importance of “Friction”. Without it, we can’t even walk. You can find out more in this book. Another interesting topic is Chapter 14 which include nature of fluid motion, laws of fluid motion, etc. After reading them, you would probably understand how water comes out from your hand shower when you are taking a bath.

I personally like this book because in every chapter, the author explained all the theories clearly, followed by fully worked problems and practice problems with answers so that you may work them out on your own. This allows you to study the topic independently.

This book is a good reference, especially for the students who are taking A211-Advanced Mathematics I – differential equations.

Based on my experience, at the start of the lessons, this module introduces the part about differentiation equations (mainly talk about the derivatives). By simply following the worksheets, it is difficult for most students new to the topic to solve the questions. With the help of this book, which provides more information starting from the fundamental to more advanced level, not only can students learn better but also challenges them. For example, in Chapter 3 which is on the derivative, instead of plunging into the topic itself, the book guides the students to learn rate of change in physical phenomena such as the speed of a car, growth number of bacteria and so on. Following the topic, it shows the proof and relation of linking rate of change into derivative function. Then it introduces main rules used in derivative calculations such as product rule, chain rule and power rule. For each rule, the book shows detailed proofs for the theorem and provides graphs for explanation. So when student read through those chapters, they won’t be bored and those graphs strengthen their impressions about the rules. What’s more? It attaches examples and practices for students to practice and gain improvements. Indeed, I have to say this book teaches me more than the school’s 6th P. The later part of the module on Advanced Mathematics I covers a lot of problems about integration which is much more difficult than derivative. This book will ease your way in learning it well. It provides good and detailed explanations about the symbols used in integration so that when you are questioned, you will be able to react faster and answer better.

This book also benefits students who are taking E336 Biomedical Signal Processing and E204 Linear Circuits and Control. These two modules require students to apply math knowledge in some problems. For example, in Chapter 10, the Euler’s method is introduced. This is a very important part for application in most SEG modules while doing calculations.

Indeed, this book has benefitted me in my studies at RP for two years. I would like to share my learning experience and pass the good things to my juniors and help them gain achievements at RP.

The author has covered the entire area of physics which include mechanics, heat, sound, electricity, and so on.

Being an Engineering student, my main interests lie in mechanics and electricity. In part one of the book, the author talks about mechanics physics which includes Aristotle on motion, Newton’s First law of motion, momentum, and more to give us a better understanding of how objects are moving and what are the energies needed for them to move.

I enjoyed Chapter 23 most which was on Electric Current because it talks about electric current, electric circuits, parallel and series circuits, etc. The overloading of circuits and safety fuses were covered as well. I believed this information is very relevant to our daily lives as we use electricity everyday and in understanding it well, we can handle it with care for our own safety.

Moreover, the author has covered a lot of interesting topics like atomic and nuclear physics, properties of light, etc. Since the author has generously offered such abundant topics, you can easily indulge in one of the topics of your interests.

Last but not least, if you are taking A203 Applied Physics and A207 Physics modules, you may use this book as reference and get yourself prepared for your Understanding Tests.

I enjoy physics, and I’m sure you will too.
